September, 2006

With the fall and winter season, things have a tendency to slow down. Not in the Modern Farang Mu Sul® world. This has been a very busy month. We have lots of news. Here are some updates:

FMS - WHQ: Here at WHQ, we not only recently took part in the first ever MMA event to be sanctioned by the state of California (which set several records), but, we also had the great pleasure to take part in the first MMA event to be held in San Francisco. It was held at the Cow Palace and was called the "Malice in the Palace". I know, pretty clever. Well, as many of you know now, Inst. Sims is now working formally with our good friend Frank Shamrock, and they had a whole team involved in the competition, including Marlon Sims and Brian Ebersole. What a fantastic and well run show. It was even more fun when our guys KO'd thier opponents. We ran into just about everyone at the fights including Grand Master Rick Alemany. We even had the opportunity to meet UFC Lt. Heavy Wt. Champion: Chuck Liddel. Very cool guy. Phil Barrone was there challenging Frank Shamrock, and up to his usual antics. I think that they will most likely meet sometime soon, whenever the money is right. After the fights, we all hooked up for a VIP celebration party at an exclusive club in downtown San Francisco. Too much fun. We look forward to much more MMA action in the bay area, and will work more closely with team Shamrock. Farang!

As many of you know, one of my favorite things to do every now and then is to act like a San Francisco tourist. We go and visit of the many sites that a lot of you all have seen now. It is lots of fun to see the city from a different perspective. We hit many of the usual spots such as down town, the embarcadero, fisherman's wharf, pier 39 (where one of my favorite shops is: "We Be Knives" - gotta check out the latest). So, here are a few pictures to refresh your memories (and hopefully help remind you why you "left your heart in San Francisco", and hurry up and make plans for another visit to this "city by the bay".

FMS Michigan : Inst. Robert Hudson recently conducted another awesome breaking seminar. All of the students just loved it and all broke their boards successfully. Great job everyone. This is not only a very fun experience, but it also helps to develop good clean, strong and focused technique, that you can execute with power, accuracy and most importantly, with confidence.

Inst. Hudson also conducted color belt testing, and tells me that all of the students did a fantastic job. Needless to say, they passed with flying colors. That's just awesome. We are so happy and proud of you all. Keep up the good work.

Farang!!!

FMS Germany: I received some great news along with some great pictures from Asst. Inst. Markus Höhne. His sister recently got married, and Markus along with his wife Birgit and son Julian made the trip to be there. The ceremony and celebration party were simply wonderful. This is so awesome. Congratulations and best wishes from us all.

I was also informed that Master Klaus Wachsmann and the German FMS students have kept a very busy schedule with tons of training and filming of techniques. This is very good news indeed. Keep up the good work Sir, and if there is anything we can do to help, just let me know. I look forward to seeing you all in Germany next year. I know we have lots of plans to follow up on, and it's just a matter of setting up our priority list and put the plans in action. Good work Sir. Farang!

FMS New York : As you may remember, Brent Appiarius was making his professional Muay Thai fighting debut. He did a fantastic job, and came out like a furry knocking his opponent all over the ring. Unfortunately, he was never really able to follow up on his powerful combinations and finish his opponent (this guys was tough!!!), and Brent ended up expending too much energy in the first round. He didn't have enough juice left in the second round and his opponent ended up dominating the action. Not to worry Brent. This is how you learn. You did an awesome job. Keep training hard and never stop growing. Farang all the way!!!

FMS Portugal: Inst. Nelson Pinto and the FMS Portugal family have also been a very busy bunch lately. They had a seminar, an archery tournament and not to forget Inst. Nelson Pinto's big birthday celebration. Farang!

Inst. Pinto's wife Vera, and her father Raul Neves (who by the way is a national champion archer in Portugal) also competed in the archery tournament. And, of course, Mr. Neves won the championship. Nelson and Vera also came away with some trophies. Congratulations!

For the seminar, Inst.Pinto focused on trapping and CQC techniques and tactics. I know this must have been a blast. Inst. Pinto demonstrates such great command of the flow necessary for this close quarter combat range. Speed, power and fluidity of tactics are the key. Good job Inst. Pinto.

And Happy birthday again from all of us. I know your students and family had a great time celebrating this awesome day. Everyone knows how special birthdays are for me. I only wish I could have been there to help with the festivities.

Farang!!!

FMS Huntington Beach : Inst. Larry Saindon recently conducted color belt testing. He had quite a large group again this time around. He was happy to announce that they all did a marvelous job and passed. Very good news, and huge congratulations to all. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing you all soon at the 3rd Annual Faultline Warrior Classic in Hollister. Be ready for ACTION!

FMS - Poland : Inst. Katarzyna Klepczyk and Asst. Inst. Andrzej Klepczyk have been pulling triple duty with work demands, teaching demands, and the demands of a new little one. That's more than anyone could want. Well, after lots of hard work, lots and lots of training, a good vacation is called for. That is exactly what the doctor ordered and that's exactly what they did.

They recently make a quick escape to the north of Poland to the beautiful port city of Swinoujscie - (with it's big harbor just at the border with Germany), and to Kolobrzeg - a very beautiful Polish resort, as well as to Miedzyzdroje - where they have their own Polish "Lane of Stars". They also visited Zubrowisko - a place with some very rare animals. This was little Ania's first visit to the ocean, and she enjoyed it very much.

Sounds like so much fun. Congratulations, and you've just got to take more vacations. That's all there is to it. You deserve it. Now, we need to get you to make a visit over here to San Francisco. Farang!!!

The Modern Farang Mu Sul club is back in full swing, with new groups of children students. I am told that the training has been very fun and rewarding. That's how it should be. As a techer, it is always so rewarding to see ones students learn and grow. This is somewhat stronger when we see children developing into good, strong and respectful little martial artists. Good work everyone.

Other News: Well, it's just about that time of the year again. Were talking about the Mt. Shasta Film Festival that is founded and coordinated by Asst. Inst. Jeff Winters. He's got quite the line up of films. Check out the program on his web site www.shastafilmfest.com. Good luck Sir, I know how hard you work on this.

We got word that Inst. Jeremy Talbott has been taking over more of the responsibilities of helping Sensei Sharkey (his current Shorei-ryu instructor) with the school as well as assuming more responsibilities of the AKA organization.

He is also going strong with his sword class which is now in it's second year. Inst. Talbott is also proud to announce that his oldest son Sebastian just finished his 2 1/2 hours brown belt test, and his youngest son Elijah just finished his 2 hour purple belt test, and both passed. They are doing well, keep getting bigger and have been doing fantastic on the tournament circuit. They are well on their way to winning their 3rd National Championship. Congratulations Sir. I know how proud you must be.

Birthday News: We are happy to announce the birthdays of our FMS Black Belts from all over the world, so all of you students will know exactly when you can show your gratitude and celebrate with your teachers. FMS Black Belt Birthdays for this month:

This month of September will be: Inst. Nelson Pinto Sept -2nd, Inst. Juan Gonzales Sept -18th, Inst. Eduardo Soberal Sept -23rd, Inst. Larry Saindon Sept -26th, and Inst. Carlos Sanchez Sept -28th.

Farang!!!

That's all for now. With brotherhood,
