February, 2007

Alright, now that the holiday's are behind us, it is time to get busy working on those New Year resolutions. Let's all keep our immediate and long term goals ever present in our daily life. Try to do at least a little something that advances you toward those goals everyday, and before you know it, they will become reality. We have lots of Modern Farang Mu Sul® news from around the globe. Here are some updates:

FMS - WHQ: All those that have visited me here in San Francisco know all about some of my favorite outdoor training spots. There are several in Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, Fort Miley, and of course, everyone's favorite: right in my backyard. We have taken advantage of some awesome weather and got in some great beach training.

One thing is for sure, we are blessed with so many spectacular views of the city and the surrounding nature. One of my simple pleasures is to watch the sunset in the pacific ocean. As life becomes more and more hectic for us all, we must remember to stop and smell the proverbial roses along the way. Be aware of all the amazing beauty that surrounds us everyday, and count our blessings.

We were also invited by our good freind Kaiso Dave Bendigkeight to join him as he was inducted into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame. And to my surprise, who do we run into at the event, but none other than Inst. Joe Gumina, his wife Joy and her family. It turns our that Joy's father was also being inducted in to the Pacifica Sports hall of fame. Joy's father was inducted posthumously for his life's work as the winningest swim team coach in Pacifica history.

Kaiso Bendigkeight was only the third person inducted into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions as a Martial Artist. The other two distinguished individuals were his teacher Prof. Bob Meshmeier, and HIS teacher Grand Master Joe Halbuna. I'd say that Kaiso Bendigkeight was in good company. There was a veritable who's who of bay area Masters and Grand Masters there to share praise and support for Kaiso. What a completely awesome evening. Congratulations Sir!

FMS Germany: Master Klaus Wachsmann and Asst. Inst. Jürgen Leusch are very busy developing the new FMS Germay and FMS Europe HQ dojang located in Mülheim a. d. Ruhr.

They are also, training a new group from Salzburg, Austria, (the town where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born). The new instructor in training is Roland Burgsteiner. He has a great martial arts background including Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Escrima. His is currently a police officer, and will start a new group within the law enforcement in Austria.

FMS Michigan : Inst. Robert Hudson reports that after their recent color belt testing, the students are in high spirits. They have been busy with some very inspired hardcore training. They are working it all, from boxing, kick boxing, grappling, and forms to weapons. The kids and adults have been having a ball. Good work everyone.

Inst. Hudson kicked off a new Women's self defense seminar in Lansing. Needless to say it was a great success. Congratulations Sir, and congratulations to all the women for taking a personal interest in not only learning some very important self defense skills, but also for getting through some very fun and challenging workout. Don't let this great progress stop here. Keep on training hard, improving yourselves in so many ways. Farang!!!

FMS Portugal: We received some very exciting news from Portugal this month. Inst. Pinto and crew conducted a special seminar in the city of Mirandela. The focus of this training was on FMS-CQC tactics for military and law enforcement personnel. Great work Sir.

And as if that were not exciting enough, we also find out that FMS family has grown by one new, tiny member. They were blessed with the birth of little Guilherme Freitas, who is the son of FMS student Marco Freitas. HUGE Congratulations!!! Trust me, I know first hand about the overwhelming joy and challenges a new child brings. You are certainly blessed. Farang!!!

FMS - Poland : The Wroclaw FMS group recently presented an awesome FMS demonstration. All of the students took part and put on a great show. They demonstrated everything from striking skills, joint locking skills, ground fighting, breaking, sparring and more. The crowd was enthralled with the awesome display of skill, discipline, focus, and power. Equally as impressive was the obvious bonds of trust and brotherhood of the FMS Wroclaw family. Way to represent. Good show everyone.

FMS Huntington Beach : The FMS Huntington Beach family returned to the annual Red Scorpion tournament and were a force. They cleaned up taking a record fourteen 3rd places, eighteen 2nd places, and nine 1st places! That's just awesome. Inst. Earl Boyd and Inst. Beth Matulich were down to lend support and it really paid off. We are all so proud of all you guys. All of your sacrifices and hard work definitely yielded great results. Congratulations, and keep up the good work. Farang!!!
